EKC! CHORUS
The original and largest group in the EncoreKC family is a non-audition choir of approximately 80 individuals who love choral singing. The Chorus is open to individuals age 50+, regardless of choral experience. There are generally 10 rehearsals per season, culminating with the season's concert. Rehearsals are held on Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to noon at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church (GCPC), 11100 College Blvd, Overland Park, KS. Concert will be on April 27. Cost for EncoreKC! Chorus Fall participation is $50. but a $5 discount is available through November 30. EKC! Chorus Rehearsals for Spring '25 begin February 10. New members should plan to attend the "new member orientation" at 9:30 February 17. Please Contact Us with questions. Registration for EKC! Spring Chorus is temporarily closed due to the tremendous response!. Check back later for possible openings. If you are a Soprano or Alto, see the SSA group below as a possibility for participating in one of our vocal groups.
ACT II ENSEMBLE
A smaller 24-member choral ensemble made up of singers from the main Chorus who rehearse at GCPC an hour before the main choir (9:30 Mondays) and are available to perform throughout the community upon request. Pam Kelly, conductor. Please note that you must be a member of the EKC! Chorus to participate in Act II. Act II rehearsals begin Februrary 17 and go through April 21. Act II will perform with the Chorus on April 27 and other dates as requested. Cost for Act II Fall participation is $25. ACT II is full for the Spring '25 Season.
SSA CHOIR
If you are 50+ and love to read and sing SSA music and are an independent singer come join our new 24-member SSA CHOIR. Sections are limited to 8 Soprano 1, 8 Soprano 2 and 8 Altos. Barbara Douglas will be conducting and Leayn Losh will be your accompanist. The repertoire will consist of sacred and secular music. This Choir is open to current EncoreKC! Chorus members as well as others in the public. The SSA Choir will meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Choir Room. BRASS ENSEMBLE
Brass Ensemble. 50+ Come PLAY with us!
Do you play a brass instrument? Our brass ensemble will accommodate and customize repertoire for any combination of instrumentations at varying levels of difficulty. The Brass Ensemble will rehearse at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church Choir Room. Jim Kelly and Darryl Prater will be the leaders of this group. Sessions are scheduled from Februrary 13 - April 23. Performances are determined by the members. Cost for participation is $25 for the Spring Session. Click here to join the Brass Ensemble.
BEGINNING HANDBELLS
Are you 50+ and have always wanted to learn how to ring chimes and handbells? This is your chance to learn basic notation, how bell music is notated and handbell ringing techniques. Jim Kelly will be your instructor. The Beginning Handbells group will meet on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00 beginning February 10 through April 23.. Cost for participation is $25 for the Spring session. WOODWIND ENSEMBLES
Woodwind Ensemble will include double reeds (oboe, bassoon), flute, clarinet, saxophones. Chamber groups consisting of duets, trios, quartets, etc. depending on registered player/instrumentation will be created. Weekly music reading with performance opportunities possible. 50+? Get out your instruments and join us! Ensembles will be directed by Amy Schwartz and Laura Lightfoot Still; Begins Thursday, February 14 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at GCPC. MUSIC READING CLASS
Are you 50+ and have ever wished you could pick up a piece of music and sing it through without listening to someone else sing it first? This sight reading class will give you a good start. There's a lot more involved in sight reading than you might think! Level 1 will cover bass and treble clef staffs - names of notes, the different kinds of notes, reading different rhythm combinations, time signatures, key signatures, how to tell what line you're supposed to follow and how to use solfege to learn about intervals. And any other questions that you may have! Barbara Douglas, instructor.
